There reaches a moment when you wonder, “How much time does he spend creating and updating fake blogs?” Apparently, a lot.
A while back Steve announced that he was taking a break from blogging in an entry that was later modified <http://anythingbutsad.wordpress.com/>. Joshua was also silent (Marc too!). What was going on?
It all became clear with the sudden appearance of a new blog, focusing on the life of a 39-year-old man from Baltimore. http://iwillnotassimilate.wordpress.com/
Goodness, for a while the blog was actually interesting. The writer revealed that he:
- was born in July 1968 Another hallmark will be hitting my 40th birthday, in July.
- used to live in Seattle before moving to Baltimore
- was mugged in July “I’ve been spooked. Because a few weeks ago, I was robbed. Teenaged boys holding guns to my head. It’s one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever experienced. It has me where I don’t want to leave the house. And I don’t do anything after dark, anymore.”
- rides to work with his sister “I’ve spent hours, this year, commuting in her car”
- struggles with mental illness.
The author also borrowed pictures from Flickr to illustrate the blog- as an example, he says on the entry for March 5, 2007 that he works in the Old London Fog Factory (which, by the way, is in Baltimore not Nashville) and illustrates it with a photo borrowed from Flickr.
Sounds familiar? It should. Steve was now morphing into someone else.
But of course it soon disappeared, wasn’t available online for a while. What was going on? Well it turns out that the author was busy making some changes. When it showed up again on 23 January 2008, most of the biographical entries, especially those that contained elements duplicating “Steve’s” life were stripped out. Other changes included switching his residence to Nashville and stating he was 40, instead of 39 (Except he forgot to change his December 30, 2007 entry where he states he’s turning 40 in July 2008).
And of course he was also creating another new blog, “Depth Magazine”.
Here’s the “About Me” section for that one, which is virtually duplicated on the “I Will Not Assimilate” blog: What is one supposed to say on an about us page? I don’t know? I’ve been blogging for 10 years. But I’m not a blogging maniac. I write when I feel like it, and rarely surf around, to comment on other’s blogs. Depth Magazine is my view on world events which has transpired, since my birth. I also have a personal blog. I’d share the link with you if we were to develop an online friendship. But those who are the nosey kinds, can find it if they really wanted to! I have nothing to hide. But this blog is completely different from my other blog, and they have different audiences. So, I keep them separate. I guess I’m supposed to get a little bit personal? Well, let’s see, ummmm…… I live in Nashville, TN. But, I’ve lived all over the U.S., and several places outside of the U.S. It was one of the benefits of being an army brat. At this point in time, my homebase is Nashville. But I spend a lot of time in Maryland. Because my mother lives there, and her health is not well. I’m 40 years old and single. The End!
How many more are out there?
For someone who’s been blogging for “10 years”, there are no comments on any of his entries on Depth Magazine. seems odd to me.
Very good info
